Children's Villages

With the SOS Children's Village concept, our organisation pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. This concept is based on four principles:

  • The Mother: Each child has a caring parent
  • Brothers and Sisters: Family ties grow naturally
  • The House: Each family creates its own home
  • The Village: The SOS family is a part of the community

Family Strengthening Programmes

Our community-based work focuses on preventing children from losing the care of their families, which means working primarily with orphan households and households where children are living with terminally ill parents. This concept is based on four principles:

  • Meeting the needs of children within their community
  • Basing actions on the needs and priorities of the community
  • Building equal partnerships with the community
  • Promoting self-reliance within the community
