Why protect children's rights?

Why protect children's rights?

The inclusion in the Bill of Rights of a special section on the rights of the child was an important development for South African children, most of whom had suffered under apartheid for many years. Some had been detained without trial, tortured and assaulted; many faced discrimination in healthcare, education and other areas. Children need special protection because they are among the most vulnerable members of society. They are dependent on others - their parents and families, or the state when these fail - for care and protection.

About SOS Children's Villages South Africa

SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES CELEBRATING 30 YEARS IN SOUTH AFRICA

For 30 years, SOS Children’s Villages has been making an impact on the lives of so many people, more especially children in South Africa. 1982 marked the founding of the national association "SOS Children's Village Association of South Africa". Since then, SOS Children’s Villages has been serving the greater good in South Africa, starting with our greatest hope, the children.

The SOS Children's Village's South Africa is a private, charitable, social development organisation. It is politically and denominationally independent, and is an affiliated member of SOS-Kinderdorf International.

We take action for orphaned and abandoned children by building and strengthening families for them to live in and grow with love, security and respect.

SOS Children's Villages build families for orphaned and abandoned children. Eight to ten children are cared for in small family-type homes, the SOS families, and are raised like brothers and sisters.
